Work Standard

As a proud member of the Painting Contractors Association (PCA), we adhere to industry standards for protocol, craftsmanship, and professionalism on every project.

​

Materials and Supplies

We provide all necessary labor, materials, and supplies to complete your project. Upon completion, our team will remove debris, leaving behind any remaining paint for future touch-ups.

​

Proof of WSIB Coverage

If hiring painters in Ontario, it is your responsibility to request proof of WSIB coverage, especially for residential renovations, new construction and commercial projects. Failure to do so could make you liable for WSIB costs, penalties, or interest in the event of an audit or workplace injury.  This includes apartments and rental spaces.

Colour Selection

If colours are not finalized at the time of the estimate, any changes or specific selections—such as vibrant tones or off-whites—may affect the cost due to additional primers or coats required. Adjustments will be communicated and added to your estimate.

Estimate Scope and Additional Requests

Our estimates cover only the work specified. Additional labor or materials requested after the estimate will be billed separately at our hourly rate, pending written approval (email or text is acceptable). Estimates are valid for 60 days from the date issued.

Smoke and Stains

For spaces exposed to cigarette smoke, fireplace smoke, or fumes, special preparation may be required to prevent stains from bleeding through. These additional steps will be reflected in your estimate.

Paint Types

We primarily use water-based or polyurethane-based paints. Since the discontinuation of oil-based paints in Canada (2012), only specific oil-based primers or stains are available. If required, this will be discussed beforehand.

Wallpaper Removal

Wallpaper removal is unpredictable and will be billed hourly. Outcomes can range from straightforward to labor-intensive, often involving drywall repairs. We appreciate your understanding and encourage optimism for the best results.

Pets and Small Children

Please keep pets and small children away from work areas for their safety. For exterior projects, ensure your yard is free of debris (including pet waste) to avoid additional cleaning charges.

​

Room Preparation

Clients are responsible for removing artwork, lamps, blinds, rugs, and collectibles prior to painting. Closets should also be emptied if included in the project. Furniture-moving services are available but will incur additional charges.

​

Curing Period

Allow paint to cure for 30 days before washing surfaces. Cleaning painted surfaces prematurely may void any warranties.

​

Exterior Painting and Weather

Adverse weather conditions such as rain or low temperatures may delay exterior projects. Work will resume as soon as conditions improve.

​

Cancellation Policy

Please provide 48 hours’ notice for cancellations. Failure to do so will result in a $250 cancellation fee, deducted from your deposit if applicable.

Payment Policy

A 50% deposit is required for all projects, with the balance due upon completion.  Late payments are subject to a 1.5% daily late fee beginning one week after the invoice date. Non-payment after 30 days may result in a lien placement with the Ontario Land Registry Office, under the Ontario Construction Lien Act.

Third-Party Payments

Lockwood Painting does not accept third-party payment arrangements.

​

NSF Cheques

Returned cheques are subject to a $250 NSF service fee. All future payments must then be made in cash.

​

Specialized Trades

We specialize in painting and do not subcontract other trades (carpentry, drywall, plumbing, etc.). For recommendations, please contact your local home builders’ association.

​

Holiday Hours

We pause operations from 4:00 PM on the last working day before Christmas Eve until 8:00 AM on the first business day after New Year’s Day to allow our team well-deserved time with their families.
